Long-term memory in AI companions

What long-term memory means in AI girlfriend and companion apps: recall across sessions, plan limits, and which HosaAI ranking to read next.

Last updated 2026-11-02

**Long-term memory** is the companion's stored context about you that is supposed to survive closing the app: your name, what you already told it, and the relationship frame.

It is not the same as the model's short context window (how much of the current chat it can see). A product can have a long context window and still reset your persona next week if it does not write durable memories.

Why it changes the pick

  • If continuity is the job, do not start with the overall girlfriend leaderboard.
  • Free plans often disable or shrink memory (AnyConversation's free card says no long-term memory).
  • Privacy: stored memory is stored personal data. Read deletion rules before you share a real name or address.

FAQ

What is long-term memory in an AI companion?

Long-term memory is the product's claim that it stores facts about you across sessions — name, preferences, story, boundaries — instead of forgetting when you close the chat. Marketing often says 'remembers everything.' Plan tables usually cap what is stored on free versus paid.

Which AI companion is best for memory?

HosaAI's memory cut leads with Nomi, then Kindroid. That page is a shortlist, not a second /10 memory score. Candy AI is first on the girlfriend ranking for other reasons.
